Description
The Yucatan Peninsula is a place of rich history, natural beauty and ancient mysteries. There is so much to this area that makes it different from the rest of Mexico. Up until the 1950's the Yucatan remained relatively isolated from the rest of the country which was finally linked by rail and later a highway in the 1960's. Prior to that time the Yucatan's connection to the outside world was by sea and consisted mainly of trade with Caribbean islands, the US and Europe. In 1972 the plans of a resort community were announced centered on what is now Cancun, Mexico which has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world!
